A fallen general and a star-born witch will stand alone against a city whose sons are born and bred for battle.

The war between Athens and Sparta is over. But not for Demosthenes of Athens, who has but one purpose kill every Spartan. In his possession is a weapon that might achieve it, the living, unstable weapon which fell from the stars, Thalassia. At present, she lies dead, but that is sure to change. Demosthenes will need her help, for Sparta has a weapon just as deadly in the form of Eris, the white witch who takes her name, not without reason, from the war-god's slaughter-loving sister.

The Hellennium takes place in an ancient world depicted with brutal realism, weaving threads of cosmic SF into bloody and graphic historical fiction. At the heart of the series is the ever-evolving, dysfunctional relationship between Demosthenes and Thalassia, whose 'anti-romance' is destined to leave a trail of slaughter and ruin down the centuries.

If you're a fan of David Drake's Northworld series, or Gene Wolfe's Soldier series, you'll want to join Demosthenes and Thalassia as they cut a bloody path of destruction through the ancient world. Frequent readers of David Weber, David Gemmell, Michael Moorcock, and even Bernard Cornwell have also found much to love.

P.K. Lentz follows up the incredible Athenian Steel with this superbly exciting, unpredictable and savage tale of ancient Greece under the influence of two individuals from the far distant future, trapped in our world. Watch Athens and Sparta transform into something you wouldn't recognize, and our history along with it. What an amazing adventure - like Northworld in the Peloponnese on steroids. Too much fun to read fast.

Demosthenes, former General of Athens and Geneva / Thalassia, enhanced human are planning on annihilating Sparta in vengeance for killing Demosthenes' wife, Laonoame. On the opposing side, Brasidas, Polemarch of Sparta uses Eden's / Eris' knowledge to slowly conquer Greece, but he battles political enemies inside Sparta reluctant to change which might be the bigger challenge.

Between the sneak attacks, new technology, combat, revolts, assassinations, duels, battles, slaughter, vengeance and basic violence this is just one of the ways this book can be enjoyed: ancient military battles, strategy and tactics with a twist.

Just think what would happen if two antagonistic advanced humans from our far future landed back in the Cradle of Civilization. How much damage could they cause? What would it do to the development of human society, art, technology, culture, history? It would blast everything to smithereens, but what's left after the carpet bombing is in the capable hands of Mr. Lentz and that's what's in these books. Messin' with Greece.

Note for Readers: As some of you are squeamish, there is both GORE and SEX in the story - quite a bit of both. It is not gratuitous, but it does make this an 18+ book.

Note for Author: Should the title been plural? I can think of more than one candidate. Two thumbs up on the epilogues. Love Malcolm and Sav. The wolves were teasing.

If you want to start a series that will start you looking up historic facts about not only Ancient Greece, but their neighbors, their enemies and simply having flights of fancy how history could change, THEN READ THIS SERIES.

Highly Recommended by 5 out 4 Readers!.

Spartan Beast The Hellennium PK Lentz 9781520318912 Books Reviews

I finished Athenian Steele and rushed to get Spartan Beast. I haven't even finished it, only a few pages left, because I don't want it to be over yet! This is a rare occurrence, especially with a writer I had previously never heard of.

For me, strong, complex character are a must and he does not disappoint. The writing brings Ancient Greece alive in my minds' eye and the plot kept me reading like an addict. I really can't say enough good things about both books except that if you pick these up you won't be disappointed.
OK, so here we go...

I've purchased and read so many books on that I've lost count, but I've never been moved to post a review before. I've always just lurked in the shadows and passively trusted the masses to get a feel for if I might like a book, or series of books by their reviews, and on the whole, it's been pretty accurate. Well, I feel that I have to take action to bring attention to P.K. and his talent. In my own small way, I hope you look at this review (from a reclusive reader,) and trust me when I say that his works are fantastic, original, and engrossing. I ran across P.K.'s works by accident, and after reading Athenian Steel I bought everything that was available for purchase by P.K. on , and additionally signed up for his newsletter, which by the way includes free e-books that are superior to most of the books I've paid for in a very long while. This is going to be long winded, but indulge me, you won't regret it. I'm at a point in my life where I've given up on the struggle of forcing myself to finish a book because I spent money on it. Life is too short, and if a book doesn't grab my attention, I abandon it. I require a few things in my reading; originality, cleverness, and substance. There are very few authors that can grab my attention (I'll list a few later) in my four decades of reading. I've learned to separate the wheat from the chaff. If you want to be entertained, and love original and fascinating worlds, read this man's work. If you do not, you are stupid, and you are dead to me.

Here's the good stuff. I put P.K. solidly in the mix.

Peter F. Hamilton
Roger Zelazny
Stephen R. Donaldson
Steven Erikson
Raymond E. Feist
Frank Herbert
C.S. Friedman
Robin Hobb
Jack Whyte
Brandon Sanderson
Glen Cook

I'll be posting this review on all his works, because I've read them all and they apply equally. Also of note, if I don't get a Path of Ravens sequel, I'm going to be pissed.
I have read both books and thoroughly enjoyed them. In fact, I coudn't put them down until I read them from cover to cover. Now, to be fair, I am a little biased because Ancient Greek history is my forte so both these novels engaged me right off the bat. The sci-fi component initially turned me off but as I got into the book, and I accepted the idea that I was reading a work of fiction, and not a history book, then it didn't seem to matter. The historical setting that the book is loosely grounded in is based on actual events, but readers should understand that both books are novels and not pure history. I found the characters intriguing, and the author's ability
to immerse them in actual events in Ancient Greece, and bring them to life, indicates to me that he has real talent as a story teller. Why hasn't a major publisher snapped him up already? My prediction is that we'll be hearing a lot from Mr. Lentz in the future and it won't be long before a major publisher signs him up. Mr. Lentz, despite my minor criticism with your first book, which was about grammar, you have imagination and real talent as a writer. I think it's only a matter of time before you hit the big leagues! I sure hope so because I can't wait to get my hands on your bext book. Andrew Yiannakis, Ph.D., Research Professor, UConn and UNM
